we're hiring | trade sales superstar

We’re on the lookout for a Trade Sales Superstar to join our friendly team at our office in Brentford, west London. This is a brilliant entry level role, perfect for a recent graduate, or someone with a couple of years work experience. In this role, your main mission will be to help extend our distribution into independent businesses, including cafés, delicatessens and farm shops.

With fab benefits, including free weekly fitness classes, an option for private healthcare and, yep, you guessed it – plenty of free tea, this role is ideal for an energetic, organised person ready to take on a new challenge in the wonderful world of tea. You can check out the full job description here.

To give you a better insight into what it’s like to work here, we chatted to Andy and Anna who are part of the trade team you’d be working alongside…

tell us a little about your role at teapigs

Andy: I look after all our trade marketing. This includes anything from creating press releases and adverts for magazines to running our tea school. I also look after some of our existing stockists and make sure they have everything they need.

Anna: I’m a key account manager and sustainability coordinator. I look after our high street ‘icon’ accounts, including Selfridges, Harvey Nichols and Whole Foods Market. I’m responsible for all sales into these accounts and launching all our new lines as well as any marketing activity we want to run in store – anything from a pull up banner to a pop-up café. I also look after our corporate social responsibility program which allows me to have a positive impact on the teapigs team, as well as knowing we are doing the best we can with all things green!

did you always dream of a life in tea?

Andy: I grew up in a household where the kettle was pretty much always on so tea has always been a big part of my home life – I even did a school project on tea when I was 8 years old. Who knew I’d be here now!

Anna: No! I had all but written myself off as a tea drinker as I don’t drink black tea and wasn’t a huge fan of dusty paper bag herbal teas. Then, I went on a teaching course in China for a year and the world of tea was opened up to me in the form of loose leaf jasmine tea (still my favorite, 4 years on). I came back from China with a whole new appreciation for tea and wanted to hunt out the best of the best. I found teapigs on Instagram and haven’t looked back.

can you talk us through a typical day?

Andy: No two days are the same in my job which is one reason I really enjoy it! Marketing wise, I regularly contact the press to let them about any company news and I’ll read through any trade magazines to find out about the latest trends in the food and drink industry. Account wise, I’ll also speak to customers, take orders and generally help out with making sure people get their tea. I’ll then also work on projects through the year like tea schools and off-site training, organising trade shows and events as well as designing point of sale material for accounts to use.

Anna: Like Andy said, there’s no typical day! I’m largely office based but I can’t remember the last time I spent a full week at my desk. I can be doing anything from answering emails, helping in the packing room, out at a meeting with a buyer, sampling at a show or setting up a pop-up café in a food hall somewhere.

what’s the best thing about life at teapigs?

Andy: This was my first office job and I love that the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. It’s a big tea family!

Anna: Definitely the people! We’re a small team of 32 who work really hard and have huge amounts of respect for each other and the work we all do. We also know how to have fun… annual sports day anyone?!

top tip for someone applying for a role?

Andy: Do your prep, be chatty, always be ready to learn and show a proactive attitude and you’ll do great.

Anna: Always be willing to chip in! The most successful and well-loved teapigs are those who aren’t afraid to put their hands up and offer to help.

To apply, please pop your CV and cover letter (they're our favourite bit!) over to explaining why you'd love to join us.

Closing date is 17th May.
