The saying goes that the best things in life are free. On that basis, a free art exhibition giving away free art at the end of it must really be the best art exhibition there can be, right?

Well that’s what the lovely people behind This Must be for You have organised, and I managed to pop along to their exhibition at Strongroom Bar in London last week. As if I wasn’t happy enough, it’s only a lovely teapigs stockist too, so even before arriving I was pretty happy about it all.

This Must Be For You is the brilliant idea made up by Tash & Charlie, who started with the innocent idea that it would be pretty exciting if, when opening up a library book, you found a gift from a previous reader. Instead of filling the university library with random gifts, instead they created miniature boxes to fill with tiny gifts to spread wherever their whims took them. This has now snowballed into an expertly executed gift-sharing initiative across the UK and now even further afield, with the boxes turning up as far away as Australia! And now the giving has spread to a free art exhibition. Artists have kindly donated pieces that were displayed for visitors, who were given three golden tickets upon arrival. Admire the art, choose your top 3, place your tickets in the corresponding ballot jars and eek! Not only do you get to enjoy the art, some lucky visitors got to take some home with them too. Follow the giving and sharing and general good side of people through their blog, facebook & twitter, and keep your eyes peeled – you never know where a box may turn up….
